Student Scholar Application Form
Texas A&M College of Medicine medical students, not enrolled in a PhD graduate program, and who are highly motivated to pursue academic careers as physician-scientists, are invited to apply for a Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) Scholar Award in the Academy of Physician Scientists. BWF Scholars spend one year (July 1 – June 30, after completion of core clerkships) intensely mentored in medical research, complemented by a robust research curriculum and scholarly activities in the Academy BWF Scholars receive a one-year graduate assistant stipend from the College of Medicine and a BWF Scholar Award (up to $30,000) for support of their research training and scholarly activities. Research projects should integrate life sciences and engineering. Upon completion of the research year, the student completes their medical school curriculum.

Applications can be submitted by March 1 during the third year of medical school and will be reviewed by the Academy of Physician Scientists Trainee Selection Committee.
Fellow Scholar Application Form
Physicians who are current or incoming Residents or Fellows and hold a post-doctoral appointment in a Houston Methodist Texas A&M-affiliated ACGME-approved training program, do not have a PhD degree, and are highly motivated to pursue academic careers as physician-scientists, are invited to apply for a Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) Fellow Award in the Academy of Physician Scientists. BWF Fellows spend two years intensely mentored in medical research, complemented by a robust research curriculum and scholarly activities in the Academy’s Community of Physician Scientists. Completing the requirements for a Texas A&M Master Degree in Medical Sciences is optional. BWF Fellows are awarded ($30,000/year for 2 years) to support their research training and scholarly activities. Research projects should integrate life sciences and engineering.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and are required to commit at least 75% time/effort as a BWF Fellow for two years.
