Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network (periPAN)
The Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network (PeriPAN)

What is PeriPan?
The Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network, PeriPAN, can enhance your capacity to provide the perinatal mental health standard of care for your patients’ needs. There is no cost to you or your patients for this evidence-based, clinician-to-clinician program. Texas PeriPAN offers real-time access to a multidisciplinary network of mental health experts, including reproductive psychiatrists, for peer-to-peer consultations by phone, confirmed and personalized referrals and resources, and behavioral health CMEs.
| Note: CPAN/PeriPAN is not a crisis line. If your patient is in crisis, call 988 instead. |

Why Choose PeriPAN?
Maternal mental health conditions are the most common complications of pregnancy and childbirth. They affect 1 in 5 perinatal women and are the leading underlying cause of pregnancy-related death in the United States. Women who get treatment can and do recover.
- Every Texas county has a persistent shortage of mental health care professionals.
- It is best practice to screen women for mental health conditions during the prenatal and postpartum periods.
- PeriPAN is state-funded, so there is no cost to clinicians or families.
- Your time consulting with PeriPAN may be billable to insurance.
How Does PeriPAN Work?
It’s simple to enroll, easy to use, and completely free. Call 1.888.901.CPAN (1.888.901.2726). Select prompt 3, then 4 to enroll within 5 minutes and get help with a patient quickly. No call is too small.
- Reach a mental health expert within 5 minutes. Call or text to start your consultation as you move between patients in your busy day, or during your admin time.
- We’ll send confirmed, local, and individualized referrals within 1 business day.
- Our team is here Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and we follow up on after-hours messages the next business day.
- Call as often as you need.

Questions/Answers
Note that CPAN/PeriPAN is not a crisis line. If your patient is in crisis, call 988 instead!
Let our team of Psychiatrists and Behavioral Health Specialists help you with medication management, mental health assessments and symptoms, diagnostic clarification, and personalized resources and referral navigation.
The service is funded through the Texas state legislature. All CPAN and PeriPAN services are offered at no cost to the patient or provider. Our team may inquire about patient insurance to better align referrals with your patients’ needs.
Yes. Calling CPAN may be a justification to document increased time or complexity-based coding. Calling PeriPAN may be a justification for documenting increased time or complexity-based coding if it occurs outside the global billing window.
We will require the patient's name, date of birth, race, ethnicity, and insurance information if available. We also require the patient's zip code to find resources nearby. Primary care provider’s contact number and email or fax number are also needed for sending referrals or resources.
A team of 12 academic health-related institutions across Texas work together to provide peer-to-peer telehealth consultations to clinicians. Dedicated child and reproductive mental health professionals are ready to support you, so you can better support the mental health needs of your patients
Our staff are available on the phones Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., except for institutional holidays (e.g., New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, etc.). There is also a secure voicemail system where you can always leave a message outside of these times and receive a call back during regular business hours the next business day. You can text your regional CPAN/PeriPAN team anytime and we will reply during normal business hours.
