Military Medicine
OUR MISSION.....is to equip the next generation of military physicians to be agile, and adaptive leaders – always ready, always preparedThe Military Medicine Program advances Texas A&M's rich legacy of military service through the formation of deep collaborative relationships with our Corps of Cadets, The Department of Defense (DoD) Service Academies, The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU), The Defense Health Agency (DHA), and numerous other DoD agencies and veterans' service organizations.
Military Medicine Admissions
The Cadet to Medicine (C2M) Program is designed for members of the Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets who are committed to attending medical school at Texas A&M and pursuing a career as a military physician. The C2M Program is open to second and some third-year cadets who meet minimum selection criteria and complete an interview with a selection committee. Cadets who are accepted into the program will have current medical student mentors and will be provided a pre-medical seminar course and an MCAT prep course free of charge. Selected cadets will be given guaranteed admission to the Vashisht College of Medicine (provided that all requirements of the program are fulfilled). They will be expected to attend the school for their medical degree on a Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) scholarship for one of the branches of the United States military.
The Military Academy to Medicine (A2M) Program is designed for members of our Nation's military service academies – the United States Military Academy (USMA), the United States Naval Academy (USNA), and the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) – who will commit to attending medical school at Texas A&M on a Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) scholarship for their respective branch of service. The A2M program is open to second-year cadets and midshipmen who meet minimum selection criteria and complete an interview with a selection committee. Those accepted into the program will be given guaranteed admission to the college upon completion of degree requirements at their service academy. The program will guide chosen applicants through a joint learning path that will enhance their educational experience.
Military medicine practice aims to provide the highest quality of health care for its service members, veterans, and their families. Students in the Military Medicine distinction focus on creating population-based projects that range from battlefield medicine to community-based events that provide accessible care to service members, their families, and veterans throughout their four years of study. Students also work with active and reserve military personnel to coordinate and participate in events and activities locally, nationally, and abroad. Students are distinct, as they develop professional competencies through their awareness of the health needs and challenges facing military and military-related populations.
Electives are available across our military medicine training sites as a component of our military medicine priority. These sites give students unique experiences with military and military family health care, as well as research opportunities uniquely related to the needs of our military and veteran populations.
Military Engagement Day
This annual event brings individuals together and focuses on Air Force and Army Medicine, Emergency Management, and Aerospace Medicine. Texas A&M University Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
