Colonel Michael Rossman

Biography
After graduating from the College of Medicine in 1994, Dr. Rossman followed his father's footsteps into active military duty. He served in the US Army for 21 years and was stationed in Washington, Kansas, Washington D.C., and Germany with his family. After completing a residency in Internal Medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Dr. Rossman served for sixteen years as an Internal Medicine physician and later Flight Surgeon, Brigade Surgeon, and Chief of Primary Care and Internal Medicine. In 2008, Dr. Rossman completed a fellowship in Rheumatology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and then returned to Germany to serve as Chief of Rheumatology Services at the Landstuhl Army Medical Center. He was later appointed Chief of Medicine and finally Deputy Commander of Clinical Services in Afghanistan, where he was deployed from 2013 to 2014. Michael served additional deployments to Bosnia, Kosovo, and Iraq. Dr. Rossman's time in the military was marked by excellence in many ways, including being awarded 3 Meritorious Service Medals, 2 Bronze Stars, and the Legion of Merit.
Dr. Rossman retired from the US Army in 2015. He and his family moved to College Station, Texas, where he carried his dedication to medical service into civilian life. He worked as a Rheumatologist at Baylor Scott & White, later serving as Chief of Rheumatology. He returned to his alma mater to teach as a Clinical Assistant Professor. Dr. Rossman was known among his colleagues, patients, and students for his compassion and exceptional work ethic. Shortly before his passing, he had accepted an appointment to serve as Division Director of Medicine at Baylor Scott & White. Dr. Rossman's students, patients, and colleagues continue to remember him as a selfless and devoted physician.
Dr. Rossman was a pillar of the College Station community. An avid fan of Aggie sports, Dr. Rossman and his family were faithful fans at the front row of Section 9 at Aggie soccer games and devotees of the SEC men's basketball tournament each year. Dr. Rossman was a man of deep faith. His love for God inspired his years of military and medical service, helping him see Christ in all the colleagues, patients, and students whose lives he touched. Dr. Rossman and his wife, Lucia, became central leaders of the Christian community wherever they were stationed, leading Bible Studies and volunteering at military churches across Germany and the United States.
Dr. Rossman's life of service continues to inspire those he knew and loved, beginning with his wife and his children, Rachel, Rebekah, and Richard. His legacy at the School of Medicine will continue through the endowment of the scholarship that was created in his memory, the Colonel Michael G. Rossman, MD ’94 Endowed Scholarship.
