Faculty Mentoring for Educational Excellence and Leadership Program
Goal
To provide faculty and postdocs with a mentor who will offer guidance in the development of competencies in medical education instruction, graduate education instruction, and/or leadership development.
Overview
The Mentoring for Educational Excellence and Leadership (MEEL) Program will address mentoring needs of faculty and postdocs in the areas of instruction and leadership in medical and graduate education. This one-year program will be an individualized collaboration between MEEL Fellow (mentees) and Mentors.
The mentor can serve in one of two roles depending on the needs of the MEEL Fellow. A mentor can provide ongoing support in professional development for the MEEL Fellow. The mentor can also serve more as a coach that can help the faculty member or postdoc in developing or acquiring new knowledge related to education and leadership in education in the short-term.
Recognition
A certificate granted to participants after completing all required program components.
Required Program Components
- Introductory 1.5-hour workshop for mentors
- Three MEEL Fellow and three Mentor Check-Ins with one of the program facilitators via WebEx
- Workshop on instructional practice for mentoring pairs
- Workshop on leadership for mentoring pairs
- Submission of a one-page summary of goals accomplished by the Faculty Fellow
- End of Program presentations by the MEEL Fellow
Mentoring Request Form
The Mentoring for Educational Excellence and Leadership Program aims to provide faculty with a mentor or coach who will offer guidance in the development of competencies in medical education instruction, graduate education instruction and/or leadership development.
Faculty-to-Faculty Peer (or Faculty-to-Post doc) Mentoring/Coaching is completely voluntary and confidential (between the MEEL Fellow and their mentor). The mentoring is focused on support, not assessment. The goal is to be constructive and collaborative in the process of mentorship.
MEEL Fellows in the Mentoring Program will be matched with one (1) member of the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators or a member of the Department of Medical Education who will address the mentoring needs in the areas of instruction and leadership in medical and graduate education. This mentorship occurs the length of the one-year duration of the Mentoring Program.
