Postdoctoral Association Travel Award

About the PDA Travel Award

The PDA will offer 2, $500, merit-based travel awards per semester. The PDA Executive Committee (with the exception of the members applying for the award) and at least 2 faculty mentors will judge applications. Criteria, deadlines, and eligibility are as follows:


If you are attending a conference between January and June 2020, applications open Nov. 4, 2019 and are due Dec. 6, 2019. Winners will be announced mid-December 2019.

If the deadline falls on a holiday or weekend, the deadline is automatically extended to the following business day.


  1. Must have an appointment at Texas A&M Health Science Center
  2. Must be a member of the PDA. Previous semester involvement is required, thus first semester postdocs are ineligible to apply.
  3. Postdocs are limited to one award every two years.

Required Application Supplements

  1. Completed travel award application with budget
  2. Abstract
  3. Current CV
  4. Letter of merit and support from faculty mentor/departmental advisor (PI should also specify that any expenses over $500 travel award will be covered)

Evaluation Criteria

  1. Need to display career and professional development:
    a) PDA Involvement
    i) Must attend 2 meetings, seminars, or events per semester previous to award
  2. Scientific merit:
    i) Merit will be judged by the proposed or submitted meeting abstract. Abstract submission, verification, and receipt of conference attendance are required to claim award.
    ii) Submitted CV, merit of individual, research background, publications, grant awards, honors, etc. will be considered when selecting award recipients.
    iii) Applicant must be presenting author on conference abstract. Conference theme must be relevant to applicant's research.
  3. Need: Applicant's history of conference participation and previously awarded funding will be considered.
