What is your favorite word?
Luck. I think I have the passion and persistence in my research, so I wish I am also lucky enough to keep my scientific projects go smoothly.
What is on your bookshelf?
A Room of One’s Own
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I produce movie montage for those I like.
What degrees do you hold and from what institutions?
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from China Pharmaceutical University.
What excites you about joining Texas A&M School of Medicine for your PhD studies?
Texas A&M is one of the top tier public universities in Texas and School of Medicine is a highly diverse college. IBT, located in the largest medical center, shows its unique advantages in interdisciplinary and translational research. Besides, I am looking forward to working with many outstanding scientists here and receiving scientific guidance from them.
If you could meet any scientist throughout history, who would you want to meet and why?
I would like to meet Dr. Barbara McClintock, who first discovered the transposable elements in maize and won the 1983 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, because she is such an outstanding woman scientist beyond her times. Based on her work, the discovery and exploration of gene transposition and transposons help us have a better understanding of gene regulation and develop new research tools and other applications. I want to see how she is thinking and questioning when working on a new subject. I also want to encourage her to continue the work when she was challenged by others and forced to stop the research on transposons at that time.
Tell us something you are passionate about apart from research.
I am a big LEGO fan and enjoy MOC (my own creation) and DIY. Also, I am a Nintendo fan and my current favorites are Splatoon2 and Ace Attorney Series.
