Introducing Julie Martel, 1st Year Medical Sciences PhD Student

Julie Ann

What degrees do you hold and from what institutions?

I graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a BS in Biology.

What excites you about joining Texas A&M College of Medicine for your PhD studies?

I’m excited to work in those very pristine labs in the MREB because they look like something out of a fancy sci-fi movie.

If you could meet any scientist throughout history, who would you want to meet and why?

If I could meet any scientist it would be Tyler Dewitt, a biochemist who made YouTube videos about basic chemistry. I struggled with my chemistry courses until I watched his videos and felt more confident in my class after his lessons. I would definitely say thank you if I ever met him.

Tell us something you are passionate about apart from research.

Besides research, I enjoy hiking! I’m not an expert but I find it relaxing to discover new areas in Texas when I can!
