Introducing John Drake, 1st Year Medical Sciences PhD Student

John Drake

What degrees do you hold and from what institutions?

I have a BS in Biology from James Madison University, Harrisonburg Virginia. And a MS in Bioinformatics from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond Virginia.

What excites you about joining Texas A&M College of Medicine for your PhD studies?

Given the interdisciplinary nature of the college, I believe the Medical Science program will allow me to reach my full potential and make a meaningful contribution to the psychiatric genetics field. Additionally, I am excited at the resources and opportunities for collaborations that Texas A&M will provide.

If you could meet any scientist throughout history, who would you want to meet and why?

Given the current pandemic, I would be interested in meeting Ignaz Semmelweis. He was a remarkably insightful and defiant individual that followed the evidence and ignored distractors.

Tell us something you are passionate about apart from research.

I absolutely love playing boardgames. Heavy euros (Le Havre, Age of Steam, Brass, etc) and 18xx games (1846, 1889, etc) are always something I enjoy.
