What degrees do you hold and from what institutions?

I recently graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry.

What excites you about joining Texas A&M College of Medicine for your PhD studies?

There are many things that excite me about joining the Texas A&M College of Medicine for my PhD studies. The main excitement comes from the potential collaboration that I will be doing with the surrounding research institution in the Texas Medical Center. I believe that scientists are at their best when there is diversity among a group and Houston is a very dynamic and diverse location. I am thrilled to join the Texas A&M College of Medicine and I hope I can continue contributing to the scientific community.

If you could meet any scientist throughout history, who would you want to meet and why?

If I could meet any scientist throughout history, it would be Alexander Fleming. Before his discovery of Penicillin, he worked on many soldiers that were being affected with sepsis due to their wounds being infected. During World War I, antiseptics were used to treat these infected wounds but from his experiments, he was able to show that antiseptics were causing more harm than good. Even now in the 21st century, we are still battling chronically infected wounds so it would be a dream to collaborate with Alexander Fleming to continue the eradication of infected wounds.

Tell us something you are passionate about apart from research.

I am passionate about spending time with my loved ones. One way I get my loved ones together is by cooking them meals. I love refining old recipes and playing with new ones. I am also passionate about promoting self-care. I quickly learned in my undergraduate studies that taking time for yourself is the only way to prevent burn out and feeling overwhelmed. So, my self-care is taking time to spend with my dog and a new edition to my self-care routine is working out.
