MedPride
Med Pride is a student-founded group of students, faculty, and staff that aims to act as a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies. Its objectives are to educate medical students and the community about the special health concerns of LGBTQ+ patients and to facilitate productive professional and social networking among LGBTQ+ students and physicians. The group aims to hold an Aggie Allies training workshop once per year, during which students, faculty, and staff who are willing to provide support and listening ear for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals or anyone facing sexual orientation issues are taught how to provide a safe space in both patient care and academic settings. Moreover, the group aims to meet regularly to discuss any issues or concerns students may be facing and ideas for promoting advocacy within the community. Moreover, guest speakers are encouraged, such as LGBTQ+ friendly physicians and leaders within the LGBTQ+ community who are able to talk about their own perceptions, experiences, and recommendations for optimal LGBTQ+ patient care. Overall, this group seeks to promote a welcoming and impartial environment for LGBTQ+ students and faculty and offer a means of learning about issues of cultural humility and LGBTQ+ equality in the health care setting.
