January 2019: AAMC Faculty StandPoint Surveys

Dear Colleagues,

Our faculty members here at the Texas A&M College of Medicine are our most important resource in delivering excellent healthcare, conducting ground-breaking research and teaching the next generation of doctors. In recognition of the key roles faculty play in academic health center performance, the Association of American Medical College (AAMC) created an initiative called StandPoint Surveys to support medical schools in their efforts to attract and retain the best and brightest academic scientists, educators and clinicians.

I am pleased to report that we are one of the schools embarking on this effort. As part of our participation in the AAMC StandPoint Surveys all full-time and part-time faculty members will be invited to take part in the StandPoint Faculty Engagement Survey. This survey is administered by the AAMC.

The AAMC’s StandPoint Survey staff will provide external support, notably through the delivery of the StandPoint Faculty Engagement Survey that will benchmark our faculty engagement levels with peer institutions, providing actionable data for us to evaluate.

Over the course of the next year, I will be working closely with the Office of Medical Education, the Office of Evaluation and Assessment, the Office of Educational Quality Improvement and the StandPoint Surveys team to assess our engagement and improve our institutional performance based on the survey findings. All faculty members interested in participating beyond the survey are encouraged to join me in working more directly with the StandPoint team.

In the near term, you should expect further information from us regarding the upcoming survey which will launch on January 29th. I strongly encourage you to share your views candidly to help us understand how you view specific institutional policies and practices here at the College of Medicine, understand workforce engagement compared to peer institutions and prioritize key workplace issues that are important to our faculty.
